Help me help my biggest hero Campaign
My dad is a 73- year old living superhero. I truly believe that there has not been a more honest and humble man to walk the feet of this earth than him.
In 2022, my dad started complaining from tremendous pain. They stay in Philipstown, which is in the middle of nowhere. He went to the Dr in De Aar, which after numerous tests at the provincial hospital, confirmed that he has gallstones. He was referred to Kimberley Hospital for the removal of the gallbladder in Nov '22. As they were pushing him into theatre, they picked up a heart tremor. Needless to say, they couldn't operate. They drove all the way for nothing. My dad learned to cope with the pain and adjusted his diet, which made things a bit better.
Fast forward to Oct 2023, he started complaining again of pain. Gallstones were back with force. The first available date to remove the gallstones and gallbladder were confirmed for April 2024. In the meantime, he had so much pain, that he could barely eat and because of this, he lost a lot of weight.
An anonymous donor sponsored the funds for my dad to be treated at Medi- Clinic Bloemfontein. They removed gallstones, which ended up being 19, and also the gallbladder. One week after the operation, he noticed blood in his bowel movements and he started bringing up blood. He was treated for a stomach ulcer and pain at the provincial hospital in De Aar, and he was barely admitted before he was discharged. He is currently bedridden and can only sit or stand for short amounts of time.
They drove all the way to Bloemfontein on 07/01/24 to see a specialist at Medi- Clinic. He was sent for a CAT scan, X- rays and they took blood monsters. On 08/01/24, they picked up a mass of about 2cmx3cm on his left lung and cysts on his kidneys. A biopsy now needs to be done on the mass on his lung and the cysts need to be removed. All of this needs still needs to be paid for. They have enquired with Universitas Hospital if they can help him, but there is no definite date when they will be able to assist him.
I am raising funds for my dad's medical care, as he does not belong to a medical aid. Also for accommodation and fuel for him, my mom and brother for the time being in Bloem. My dad is a pensioner and he doesn't generate a monthly income anymore. My mom gets a very small salary from doing admin for one of the farmers in the district. So needless to say, there is no extra money for proper medical care, nevermind driving almost 300 kilometres everytime to see a specialist.
We are still waiting to hear whether he will be admitted to do the biopsy and for the removal of the cysts. But with no proof of funds, a private hospital is obviously not able to help him.
PLEASE help me help my dad. He is my biggest hero and I - and so many other- still need him to be around for a very long time.
