My Educational Pursuit Campaign
After almost a decade of attempting to get tertiary education, African Leadership University(ALU) has
granted me an opportunity to further my studies.
Hi, my name is Clara Xerinda. I am 27 years old young woman and I am a Mozambican citizen residing in Johannesburg, South Africa. I received my
primary and secondary education in South Africa, and I will forever be grateful for that opportunity.
After graduating from high school in 2015, I couldn’t find a sponsor for my tertiary education as none of
my family members can afford to pay for my tuition fees. Fortunately, I heard about the Mastercard
Foundation Scholarship in my search for opportunities to study further, which is where I learned about
African Leadership University, a university based in Kigali, Rwanda. I applied in July 2023, and in
September 2023, I received an admission offer to study entrepreneurial leadership. I did not receive the
scholarship as I hoped. However, I received a Community Leadership Grant, which is worth $2000.
Forced by the circumstances, I had to deffer/postpone my admission from January 2024 intake to May
2024 intake in order to figure out how to get funds for other expenses.
The annual tuition fees are $3000, and $2000 will be deducted from my annual fees. This means that I
will be responsible for the remaining $1000 and other expenses such as flight tickets, accommodation,
medical insurance, etc, and my family can not afford to pay for these expenses. This opportunity
presented itself after a very long time of being resilient and patient. I can’t bear the possibility of losing
it. I have searched for other partial and full scholarships with no success. Therefore, I am turning to the
public to help me by donating any amount to help me cover these expenses. Even the amounts that may
be considered the smallest will make a major difference and will be deeply appreciated. Your donations
will contribute to my growth and restore hope.
ALU supports young people who wish to make a positive impact in their communities with resources,
guidance, and mentorship. As an aspiring social entrepreneur, studying at ALU will not only contribute to
my academically growth however it will also equip me with skills I need in order to tackle challenges
surrounding access to education and gender inequality specifically in rural areas.
A few current ALU students have informed me about their cost of living while studying at ALU. I have
attached a carefully drawn budget below of all the expenses and amounts for the duration of 3 years.
No matter how small or big, your donations will truly go a long way.
