Help basketball stars get to SA champss Campaign
SUPPORT HOUT BAY BASKETBALL STARS REACH THE SA CHAMPS IN JULY
Hello Hout Bay community, friends and family: we appeal for your support to get 3 top basketball players from Hout Bay and their teammates in the Western Province team to the SA national championships next month in Bloemfontein.
We hope to raise at least R12 000 this month, and ideally double that to sponsor 3 other players from the Western Province team.
The Hout Bay players in the U18 boys Western Province squad are: Junio Cloete, 17; Zade Darkoh-Keeton, 17; and Siyabonga Matinise, 16 and they play for Hout Bay Snipers. I am one of the parents.
The Snipers won the Cape Town trophy in 2022, with the support of great coaches, volunteers and the Hout Bay community. Basketball brings people together and is soaring in popularity as a diverse sport across SA.
But Western Cape basketball does not have the funds required to get its top boys’ or girls’ teams to the SA tournament: an estimated R4000 per player.
In total the team needs R4000 x 30 = R120 000. The money is needed for transport there, dorm accommodation and 2 meals a day from 2-7 July.
We hope to raise at least one tenth of that = R12 000 for the 3 X Hout Bay boys (one can self-pay so his share can be shared with another player in need).
If possible we wish to raise another R12 000 for 3 X other Western Cape players. The extra R1000 would contribute to the BackaBuddy fee.
All donations will be paid into the Sniper’s basketball club account, which have an excellent track record, and they can pay the funds raised to Western Cape basketball.
No Western Cape players will be able to play in the SA national tournament unless we raise enough for the full teams of boys and girls.
At the SA tournament, players will be selected for a SA team to compete in the U18 African Champs in 2024 so it is the major event for youth basketball this year in SA.
Please support the Western Province team to get there!
