Elderly folks needing funds 66309 Campaign
My story is not about me wanting help, but for my parents and brother. My mom is 74, dad 79 and brother 52. My brother has downs' syndrome and lives with my parents. About 7 years ago someone promised them a great business opportunity which, now 7 years later nothing has ever come of it. In the meantime, they stopped their kids' transport business thinking they would be able to retire comfortably with these promised funds as they weren't getting by at the time with their income. They lost their house, car, etc. due to this. They have sold off all their furniture and now only have their personal belongings. They have been staying with various family members but unfortunately, they could only house them for a while as they couldn’t contribute enough towards food, electricity, etc.
They have now run out of options and family to support them. At the moment they are staying in a safe haven for homeless people. I desperately want to help, but with a family of 4 and running my own business, it's not been possible. I am barely covering my own expenses. They get very little grant/sassa money every month. Not nearly enough for food and housing. Unfortunately, there is no monetary value I can specify as we need a long-term solution for them. My prayer/hope for them at the moment is to get sufficient funds to bring them closer to us (Port Elizabeth) and to be able to get a little place to rent and food. They live in Gauteng. They need the bare essentials to survive each month. Retirement houses are too expensive and 99% of them will only take 2 elderly people per unit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My mom is still very lively and is willing to do do caregiving work as well.
The funds will go towards bus fare to get them here. Rent, even if it’s just a bacherlor flat or room. Starting them up with food, toiletries etc. They also need to get medicine which costs about R800 per month. If there’s any extra money, we will try to invest it for them so that they can live off that in future.
Thank you very much.
