Mariska Neck Surgery Campaign
There aren’t enough positive adjectives I can use to describe Vision For Life's Pasient liaison officer Mariska Enslin.
Mariska is always attentive and friendly, helpful and professional and she literally never stops smiling. At first you might think she may just be in a good mood, but after visiting Vision for Life several times, you'll realise... that’s just who she is.
Unfortunately Mariska's exceptional spirit took quite a blow recently when she started experiencing severe neck pain, resulting in loss of power and strength in her hand and arm and enduring countless sleepless nights due to severe pain.
We are starting a Back A Buddy campaign in order to help Mariska raise money to have major surgery performed in the private sector to relieve her pain, regain the full function of her hand and arm and to perform daily activities pain free again. She needs to have a 3 level disc decompression & fusion in her neck that was privately quoted over R200000 and this just for hospital not even anesthesiologist nor the surgeon or the after care and medication, quotes can be provided. She can go through the state meaning she will wait for months. This procedure will need to take place in Groote Schuur Cape Town meaning she will be away from family and friend and will have no support to help her. The aim is to have the surgery done in December for her to recover to get back to work in the new year. She had an appointment at the state hospital and was confirmed that this might only happen in April or May next year meaning she will have to carry on with discomfort for a few more months. Not a position she wants to be in as it is already so severe and constant pain.
We urge members of our extended community that knows this friendly face that is so well known to all of us and we’d like to urge you to get behind it – every small little bit helps even it’s a simple R10 note.
