Personal message

Finally, being a West Bromwich Albion fan has paid off! With my extensive (?!) knowledge of the beautiful game, i’ve been chosen to manage a football team that will be taking part in a charity soccer tournament in 2010.

The team will be made up of staff from the camps in the concession that i work in. Our concession is called The Kwedi and our team is named ‘The Kwedi Sable’ after a rare antelope found in this area. The event is called ‘Soccer in the Wilderness’ and will take place over a three month period from March to May 2010, with the final taking place at my camp, Vumbura Plains, on May 1st. We will be competing with five other teams.

The charity that we’re raising money for is called ‘Children in the Wilderness Botswana’ and is an extremely worthy cause. The programme hosts vulnerable children of between 8 and 16 years old, in groups of up to 45 participants at a time, for periods of up to a week at Wilderness Safaris Camps. The curriculum is offered in a safe wilderness environment and includes topics such as the geology and geography of the region, the area's wildlife and its conservation, arts and crafts, nutrition, sport, health and HIV/AIDS. The kids also get to go on game drives and are encouraged to think about the importance of conservation and the sustainable development of Africa’s natural resources.

For more information on the charity see http://www.childreninthewilderness.com/

As Bill Shankly, one of Britain’s most respected and successful football managers, once said, ‘Football is more important than life and death’ and that’s exactly how the staff here feel about the game. So, please support us and give generously to CITW!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is the most efficient way to donate and your contribution will directly benefit Children in the Wilderness Botswana. Please note that donations are made in South African Rands...a rule of thumb is for every US$1, you are donating 8 South African Rands. You can also visit http://oanda.com/convert/classic for more up to date currency information.

Many thanks for your support,

Zara
