Personal message

On Sunday 23rd April, 702 breakfast’s Xolani Gwala will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon! It’s a journey that he committed to wholeheartedly and has been putting in the miles and doing the training to get race day ready.

As host of a current affairs programme, Xolani is exposed to some of the very best, but also the very worst stories and issues affecting our society. One issue that he cannot abide is child abuse and he hopes to use his journey at the Virgin Money London Marathon to help improve the journey to healing of many young child abuse victims enabling them to shift to survivors, through the Teddy Bead Clinic.

The Teddy Bear Clinic provides specialized care, protection and support to these young survivors and their families  to make that healing possible by minimizing the affects of abuse.  All these services are provided free of charge.  This ensures all children have access to our services. The cost of providing these services to 1 child is R 13 446. These services are unique as they are multi-professional interventions, in other words 1 child receives the services of many professionals.

The Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children (TTBC) originated in 1986 in response to an urgent need for medical examinations for sexually abused children. From there it has grown into a fully fledged service for abused children which includes: Forensic medical examinations, forensic assessments, counseling, psychological testing and more recently a diversion programme for youth sexual offenders. As an NGO, our concern is not only to support children and families affected by abuse but also to promote: “CHILD ABUSE NO MORE”.
