Personal message

Hi friends

Thank you for visiting my Children in the Wilderness/Tour de Tuli 2010 fundraising page.  As the Managing Director of Wilderness Safaris Botswana Children in the Wilderness is a cause that is very close to my heart.

This is the second year that I'm participating in this cycle tour in helping to raise funds for Children in the Wilderness through riding the Tour de Tuli.

The Children in the Wilderness programme is a non-profit programme dedicated to helping disadvantaged children see the beauty and potential in the wild places of Africa. Using environmental education, therapeutic recreation and good old-fashioned fun, Children in the Wilderness creates an awareness of interpersonal skill and an increased involvement in the environment whilst fostering the creative spirit. The programme develops resilience in the children, increases their self-esteem and therefore builds and strengthens their capacities to cope with life’s challenges. It also provides them with the life skills necessary to actualise their greatest potential.  Children in the Wilderness sets out to create hope in the lives of children where and when it is least expected.  As Children in the Wilderness enter its tenth year, the opportunities presented by the programme are increasing; there is always much to be done to help the youth of southern Africa. This means that there is a need to be proactive with regards to fundraising in order to realise the programme’s potential.

Children in the Wilderness has been operating mountain bike fundraising events for the past five years.    These events have proved to be increasingly popular and well subscribed. The cycle tours provide cyclists with an incredible opportunity to ride through amazing wilderness areas whilst at the same time raising funds for  Children in the Wilderness.

The Medscheme - Tour de Tuli 2010 cycle tour will traverse through three different African countries: Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa and three National Parks: Northern Tuli Game Reserve, Tuli Safari Area and Mapungubwe National Park.
