Will the Real Wilco please Stand Up

I have spent more time exercising in the past few weeks than I have for most of my life. I am neither a natural sportsman or fighter, and it has taken every ounce of inner strength to stay the course – I have never not finished a round, but have finished plenty in pain and tears. My boxing journey has taken me to places I never thought possible – I have worked tirelessly, cut 20 KG’s, bulked where I thought I would never, I have broken ribs, fractured my sternum and been regularly bruised and bashed around the ring by some unnecessarily big people.  The day is nearly here, and I am now training 5 days a week in the lead up to my first full amateur rules fight on April the 12th.

About the Fight.

I will be fighting Koslev, a super-middleweight boxer who has far more ring experience despite being almost half my age.

The fight will take place 4 pm Saturday 12 April at pound4pound boxing gym on Bree Street Cape Town.

Raising Cash while getting bashed

In a drive to help some others in Africa achieve their goals, I am raising funds for two inspirational  causes:

Educo - www.educo.org.za

A well-established yet very underfunded programme that delivers outstanding support to some of the hardest affected youth in Africa, every month they help 100′s of young people turn anger and confusion into positive energy for change in themselves. As well as offering pillars of support through rape, aids and drugs, the fantastic leaders and coaches give the disaffected youth skills to understand themselves, and tools to create outward change.

Refuges in Cape Town

The second cause is far less formal – a group of refugees from the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi – their displaced lives in South Africa are extraordinarily hard, and their stories often incomprehensible to lucky people like us. I have found a business leader amongst them to form a cooperative, which with the help of a some fridges, a rented garage, some transport and a little start-up capital should be able to employ herself and 4 others initially – plucking, preparing and selling chickens within their central African community network. The project is already live – 20 chickens a week, and with your help we can take it to 200 and create the new jobs, pride and income.
