Let’s Help Wayne Sharpley Overcome His Brain Tumor

Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

We find ourselves at a crossroads, facing a challenge that no one should ever endure alone. Wayne, my beloved father, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in early January 2024, and we are rallying together to provide the support and strength needed for his difficult journey. The tumour, measuring 5.9cm x 5.3cm x 6.4cm, is large and gives you an idea of the journey ahead for Wayne and his family.

Wayne is a loving husband, father, son and brother and is absolutely adored by his grandson Tyde. Those of you that know Wayne, know that he is a kind, generous, loyal man and gives a 1000% of himself to everything that he does.

Wayne is a Maritzburg College Old Boy, a former SANDF and SAPS member and is probably best known for his prowess on the rugby fields. He has proudly donned the Maritzburg College First Team jersey on Goldstones, the Natal jersey at Cravenweek, the Natal Duikers jersey at Kings Park and The Bobbies and Blue’s jerseys at Woodburn to name just a few. 

If you ever watched Wayne play, you will know that he played with guts and courage but now those attributes are being used to fight an invisible and terrifying unknown. His spirit has always been an inspiration to us all. Now, as he faces this formidable opponent, we want to surround him with the love and financial support necessary to navigate the challenging road ahead.

A brain tumour affects not only the individual but the entire support network around them. Medical treatments, surgeries, and ongoing care are not only emotionally draining but can also place a significant financial burden on the family. We are reaching out to you, our community, to stand together and alleviate some of this burden.

How You Can Help:

● Donate: Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Your financial support will go directly towards Wayne’s medical expenses, treatments, and ongoing care.
● Share: Spread the word about this crowdfunding campaign. Share it on social media, email, or any other platform. The more people who know, the more support we can gather.
● Send Positive Vibes: Your thoughts and prayers are equally important. Leave an encouraging message for Wayne to show your solidarity.
 

We are anticipating the following costs and would like to cover as many of them as possible to alleviate Wayne’s anxiety:

1. Salary. Wayne unfortunately is in a position of “No work, no pay”. This, obviously is a huge worry to Wayne, so we would like to raise enough funds to cover his monthly income.
 
2. Wayne is currently at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban under the care of a Specialist Nuerosurgeon. The daily travel from Pietermaritzburg to Durban is expensive and tiring. We would like to ensure that the family’s travel costs are taken care of, and if possible, arrange for them to stay in a BnB a couple of nights a month to be closer to Wayne.  
 
3. Medical and Palliative Care. At this stage we don’t know what his medical and palliative care will entail but as you all know these services are not cheap. We would love to be able to cover these expenses without putting any further burden on the family while they focus on Wayne’s health. Medical equipment like a wheelchair or a walker, Occupational Therapy to learn to talk or walk and palliative care at home are all things that we need to keep in mind.
