Personal message

My name is Adam Jacobs. I am 21 years old and from Cape Town, South Africa. I will begin my journey in Cape Town in 2024, cycling, unsupported, for 2 years around the perimeter of the African Continent. The objective of the trip is firstly, to write and document stories of the African continent. Secondly to address a very prevalent issue in today's world, mental health. Committing to an expedition of this nature means accepting that a large part of it will be tough. I will have to face my fears and overcome hardships in ways I have never imagined. 

 

We all have been through tough times, some more than others and that can be an extremely lonely place.  I don’t think a journey is ever travelled alone and I want to share that aspect with the broader public. The expedition is not about finishing the ride in 2 years but rather about waking up every morning, finding the beauty in the day and sharing the stories with people through social media. 

 

I am partnering with Waves for Change, a South African NPO. They have designed programs that address mental health issues through sport - Surfing in their case. Cape Town is surrounded by stunning beaches and it's a special place we all get to enjoy from a young age.However, Cape Town is undoubtedly a polarised city and accessibility is a hot topic. This is where Waves for Change comes in. They provide people from under-resourced areas with the tools to surf, become coaches and access to psychologists. The work they are doing for social development in the country is out of this world and it’s an absolute privilege for me to have them on board with my project, “Chasing Adam.”

 

My goal is to raise R100 000 for Waves for Change while I pedal 35000km around the continent. This goal can only be reached with YOUR help!
