My name is Yaseen Bux, from the beautiful, picturesque beachside town of Port Shepstone on the K-Z-N South Coast. As a result of the pandemic that is having a profound negative impact on the economy, the many industries and sectors and as a consequence, the livelihoods of so many people, who at one stage before the pandemic hit were employed, most of these people were the breadwinners for their respective households, now in these very bleak times find themselves without a job and hence a source of income.

They now do not have the means to feed themselves and their families during these times and as the situation unfolds and gets worse, the chances of employment for these affected people looking bleaker and bleaker with the passing of each day.

We are aware of the urgent need for food parcels for the thousands of South Africans who are going hungry each and every day. As a result, my colleague, Zusakhe, and I plan on raising much-needed money which will go towards the purchasing of food parcels to the thousands of families who are in desperate need of relief as a result of job losses from the lockdown which has now exacerbated the already high unemployment rate.

My colleague, Zusakhe, and I will be walking 350km from Port Edward to the Port City of Richards Bay from the 2nd to the 6th of November 2020 with the intention of raising the much-needed money for food parcels and highlighting the need for food security during the journey.

You will be able to track our progress and updates on social media. The proceeds from the funds raised will be directed to the Gift of the Givers Foundation, who will then purchase the food parcels using the money raised and distribute them to the communities who are in dire need of relief.
