PETS stands for PET EMPOWERMENT IN TOWNSHIPS. We are a registered public benefit organization. We have been assisting the community of Orange Farm & surrounding areas for more than ten years now.PETS is run by volunteers who all have full-time jobs, where access to veterinary care is scarce.
Our primary goal is to empower the communities to better care for their animals. We work with the community to improve the lives of these disadvantaged animals by assisting them with food for their pets, kennels, regular inoculations, sterilisations and vet care in emergencies.
We also rehome those that are unwanted, unloved or lost. We try to instil in the communities a responsibility and pride for their animals by empowering the animals and educating and helping the people uplift themselves.
We believe in working hand in hand with the animals and people of these impoverished areas to create unity, trust and stability for all.
We receive no regular corporate funding, and being the only welfare organization supporting Orange Farm, Walkerville, Sebokeng, and Ennerdale- the strain on our resources is huge.
We get daily calls from the community about sick or injured animals needing veterinary care and usually average taking at least four animals a week to the vet for treatment.
Despite our best efforts to pay off our vet account as and when cases come in, the demand is just too great. For the time being, we have had to stop providing any veterinary care as we can no longer afford it.
We are appealing to the public to help us pay off our vet account to resume helping animals in need from these impoverished areas.
Paying off our vet bill will enable us to provide veterinary care and sterilizations for animals living in the township. Without us, they have no access to any veterinary care, and the need is astounding.
The funds raised are paid directly into our vet account and will settle our account of R50 000 owing from previous dogs and cats we have had to treat. Once this is paid, we will be able to resume helping animals who need us.
Hopefully, if more than our goal is raised, it will put us in credit at the vet, giving us room to breathe and not worry about finances daily and whether or not we can help an animal who needs us.
