Ubuhlanti has long been a gathering of the non-profit organization Bridges For Music celebrating its 10th year annivessary. This event gathers our friends, supporters, and artists from around the world, including local artists from Cape Town that we sponsor (camp fees).  

Bridges for Music is a community rooted in Burning Man's philosophy of collaboration and love for the arts. In our default world, music bridges gaps between people and empowers them through education and  exchange of knowledge and culture.   

Talented alumni will be joining us from the Bridges Academy in Langa Township this year, and four more from our local team will work on the stage build. In addition to Anele, we have Leon, our maintenance manager, and part of our core team at the Academy. We do this because we believe in the power of this  experience to change one's mind and frame of reference. 

This year we are pleased to announce our collaboration with the Tree of Stories. As you all know, last  year we designed and built our own stage with the help of local carpenters from Langa. 

The concept is to create a stage that would represent the Ubuhlanti (Kraal) , a sacred space in the South African local cultures. The Kraal was surrounded by 3 shacks which showcased the different ways shacks are being used in the disadvantaged communities. This year we have decided to take the idea to another level. We will be increasing the number of shacks to 11 in total. We plan on creating a community in the desert using the 11 shacks to create a wonderful dance floor in the middle. 

The stage will be situated next to the Trees Of Stories as indicated in the drawing. We will be using the solar power from The Trees Of Stories for our lighting showcase as we are working towards a greener community. For the stage we will still be using a generator to power our sound system.

Your support in this project would be of great help as we intend to give back to a model of education that aims to change lives and create a safer and greater community. Reaching this target would mean we can ensure we have funds to not only pulll of this operation but it would mean we have the ability to run the academy and through unforeseen circumstances sometimes it is not always certain that people will remain donars or supporters so your contribution would really appreciated.
