Personal message
Tinyiko Gwambe was born with a congenital syndrome called Tetra-
Amelia. This means that she has multiple limbs which did not develop
fully at birth. In Tinyiko’s case, all 4 limbs were affected which has
resulted in her needing to use a wheelchair for mobility and she has
very short arms and no hands.
Tinyiko has been dependant on friends and family to drive her around
and to lift her into and out of her current car. She now has a need to
purchase a vehicle that enable her to access it and drive it
independently so that she has full control of her life and is able to get to
and from work independently without being reliant on other people. She received her Code 8 driver's license through Driving Ambitions (QuadPara Association of South Africa) in 2019.
She has the choice of trying to find a suitable second-hand vehicle that
is fitted with the Space Drive system that is similar to the system that
she learned to drive with. This will require importing the vehicle from
the UK through the assistance of Cape Mobility. Alternately she has the
option of purchasing a locally available vehicle that is adapted to suit
her needs.
Let’s help Tinyiko achieve her goal!
