THE GREWS : The Greek & The Jew

The 14th edition of the Absa Cape Epic will take place from 19 to 26 March 2017 and will be as challenging as ever. Local and international mountain bikers will tackle the demanding eight-day adventure through the Western Cape region in South Africa.

The Absa Cape Epic must be completed by both members of a two-person team with only 650 teams and 1300 entrants allowed to ride the race. The route changes every year, leading aspiring amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world through roughly 700km of unspoilt scenery and 15 000m of accumulated climbing, over some of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa.

The Absa Cape Epic is the most televised mountain bike stage race in the world and the only eight-day mountain bike stage race classed as hors catégorie by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). This official UCI status makes it a highlight on the professional racer's calendar. The Absa Cape Epic also attracts aspiring amateur riders wanting to test themselves against the best.

2017 will be the first Absa Cape Epic Darren and James ride together. Riding and completing the toughest 8 day untamed MTB race in the world has been on both their bucket lists for a long time.

Both Darren and James believe that life is about living. We live a better life when we understand that life is short, the importance of taking risks, and living well.

Team Grews will be riding for a purpose. "It would be awesome to get to the end of each day realising not only have we achieved our goal, but we have made a difference to other people's lives".

Hospice is not the place where "people go to die". On the contrary, Hospice Wits encourage those who need them to live their lives to the fullest.

Our aim is to raise money for the "home from home" in-patient unit at Hospice Wits in Houghton, who strive to create a peaceful environment for those patients who are not in a blessed positon to be able to die at home, surrounded by family and loved ones. Hospice Wits provides care to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the patients and family facing life limiting illness.

We serve the greater Johannesburg area, North, South and Soweto, providing access to care that hospitals and clinics do not have the expertise and capacity to provide.

Our unwavering dedication to providing compassionate care for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses has remained the cornerstone of our mission. Yet, we acknowledge that this journey is not one we can undertake alone.
