Personal message
Our lives changed in an instant when the pandemic hit. Running got me through a large portion of hardcore lockdown, as it was always something I could look towards when my mental health needed some assistance.
As the restrictions eased up and I was able to go back to gym. I met my new friend Bonni, a gym instructor. I very quickly learnt that outside of the gym her only reason for existence was to make a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. I have been privileged enough to visit the hospital (in full Personal Protection Kit) and meet the children that Rainbows and Smiles support. I had NO idea the devastation that was out there. 52% survival rate and these brave little people very quickly have stolen my heart.
This would be my first real run for a reason. I chose running as my therapy and now running has now reminded me that even in my weakest moments, there are tiny humans fighting big monsters. The passion to help them is now driving and pushing me forward. I have never considered myself an athlete but lockdown has taught me that with determination and a “reason”, anything is possible.
Creating awareness for children fighting cancer is essential and together we can do this.

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer. In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection.
