My name is Sthembile Shange from Hammarsdale I am a 4th year student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Edgewood Campus. I was admitted in 2016 but had to dropout in 2018 after I was raped late 2017.I attended counseling and stuff but was still failing at school because I could not let go of the psst traumas. When I was not studying I would look for jobs and enrolled on the 3 phases of Educational Assistant/Teacher Assistant posts where I saved money to pay for my readmission and registration fee from when I go back to University.
Luckily I was admitted back in 2022 at the University as a second year student under the new syllabus of New B Ed because the old syllabus was to be phased out in 2023. I passed 90% of my modules and failed only 1 (Geography).
I was unfortunately defunded by NSFAS in June 2023 just before the commencement of Teaching Practicals. I got assistance from my fellow 3-year-students who helped me by raising funds to assist me at least raise money for transport to the school where I was practicing. I used to call NSFAS and UKZN Funding offices everyday of my practicals trying to fix the defending issues after I received no assistance from the student leaders (SRC). I managed to fix the issue of funding all my own and received my funding.
This time around I passed ALL my modules and even got a merit and my academic performance changed from RED (at risk) straight to green (good academic standing). Unfortunately I again have been defunded by NSFAS this year. I reapplied and still waiting.
The issues now is that I have to go for a 3 months Teaching Practicals in early February. I am due to practice at a school in Clermont called Sthengile Secondary School. I will be unable to do my practicals if I have not registered for the year 2024 and more especially I have to go back to Res so I can be closer to the school compared to being in Hammarsdale.
I am writing to plead with you all to help me raise and pay my registration fee of R4 600.00 so I can at least be able to register for my 4th year (which is my last) and be able to do practicals.
