Dear Friends,
Leopards are graceful and powerful big cats, which are closely related to lions, tigers, and jaguars.
They are strong and comfortable in trees enabling them to haul their kills into the branches. They drag the bodies of large animals into the branches in order to keep them away from scavengers such as hyenas.
Leopards can also hunt from trees, where their spotted coats allow them to blend with the leaves until they spring with a deadly pounce. These nocturnal predators also stalk antelope, deer and pigs by stealthy movements in the tall grass.
Sadly, Leopards are endangered animals since they are at risk of poaching from hunters who prize them for their unique spotted coats. They are also at risk of human encroachment on their habitat, which results in farmers poisoning them or shooting them in order to protect livestock and other animals.
This year I am taking on the 94.7 Cycle Challenge for a third time, this time for to raise funds to protect these majestic animals!
You can help by clicking the "DONATE NOW" Link on my page: http://www.backabuddy.co.za/steves-ride-for-leopards and sharing with as many friends you possibly can!
Let's do this for this epic cause!

Leopard Conservation Project

Fred Berrangé established the Leopard Conservation Project (LCP) in 2000.The Organisation was registered as a non-profit, section 21 Company in 2007. The focus of the project has primarily been to protect leopard from poaching, poisoning, trapping, and over-hunting, however in recent years focus has shifted to include the collection of data on population and territory size as well as the genetic relatedness and diversity of leopards within different regions. LCP has captured, darted, collared and released a number of animals into suitable environments with GSM cell phone collars and now monitors their movements remotely through the use of cutting edge technology. Collaring these animals has enabled LCP to collect morphometric (physiological) data that will contribute to a better understanding of how these animals are equipped and affected by the challenges they face.
