Sea rescue services in South Africa are undertaken by volunteers who train as rescue crew to serve their local communities. Stations are scattered throughout the country, both coastal and inland, and draw excellent people willing to risk their safety to rescue others. As National Sea Rescue Crew, we serve one united mission - to save lives on South African waters. It is the ethos that defines us and it is the thread that binds us together.

Station One Six, in Strandfontein, is served by some of the best among us. They are an integral part of us, as much as we are a part of them. One Six is situated along the False Bay coastline and operates along some of the busiest beaches in the region. We are immensely proud of the excellent work that they do as they face some of the most difficult conditions of surf-based rescue crews in this country. The station has a rich tradition of service to sea rescue with many crew members continuing family commitments extending across multiple generations. These are some of the strongest rescue swimmers around, with a solid background in surf lifesaving. Many of the crew from One Six work, volunteer, and train as lifeguards in addition to their volunteer roles with the NSRI.

Recently, they have borne the brunt of geographical theft and crime, and true to our nature we cannot stand on the sidelines and do nothing. Sea rescue crew from flanking stations have decided to raise funds to support the crew at One Six and show them just how much we value and appreciate the amazing work they do. Your donation will help us brighten their day and show them how much they mean to us and to their communities.

This campaign is not an official National Sea Rescue Institute campaign. It is the initiative of volunteer sea rescue crew. The funds raised in this campaign will be for the crew to use at their discretion. Funds will be administered by the Station One Six’s Station Commander on behalf of the Station. Funds will not be used for the purchase of operational equipment and rescue gear as these are provided by the National Sea Rescue Institute of South Africa.
