Personal message

The proposed project for the establishment of the sewing skill Training Centre (STC) will be an integral part of supporting Refugee women to access livelihood opportunities and more towards self-reliance.

While still a challenge for refugees to access legal documents and other basic rights in South Africa the aim of ARSC is to advocate for refugees to gain greater access to the South African economy.

This project will therefore prepare refugee women to take advantage of both existing and future livelihood opportunities as they arise by providing them with the necessary vocational skills to gain productive employment.

Significantly, the STC course offered will allow refugees to access livelihood opportunities in a wide range of contexts. These context of local integration and in a situation whereby refugee women are afforded greater access to the South African economy.

The proposed project is in line with local integration of refugees, particularly women and children in South Africa. The project aims to offer VT to refugees women in Durban city and surrounding areas.

The project will offer a range s of VT courses that are aligned to education needs and income generation opportunities of the refugee populations. Courses include: sewing skills courses (with formal accreditations)

I would expect the fund raising to take 3 months.
