Personal message
Hi, my name is Rucus Van der Merwe. I am 40 years old and own a Bakery in Durbanville. I am an avid cyclist that enjoys being outdoors. I have completed the Cape Town Cycle Tour 10 times already.
I believe that children are the future, and we need to help nurture them. Home of Hope is a remarkable non-profit organization that makes a difference in children's lives through their Child and Youth Care Center, Amathemba Special Needs school and Living Life Projects.
This is my first time Riding for a child, and my little buddy's name is Naomi. Naomi is a loving and sweet little girl born with Cerebral Palsy and struggles with the daily challenges of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
Despite all of her challenges, nothing stops Naomi. She loves to write letters, help others and dance.
I would like to raise R12000.00 to help make a difference in Naomi's life. Please help me, help her!
The R12000.00 raised will contribute to Naomi's daily and medical needs and education.

Home of Hope

Home of Hope was started in 2005, and we are an NPO that cares for abandoned and abused children and children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD – permanent brain damage caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol). We are a registered place of safety and we have 19 children in our long term community based foster care.
The organisation also caters for the special educational needs of children suffering from FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and neurological challenges, in our Amathemba Learning Centre. There are currently 37 children at our Amathemba Learning Centre.
