Personal message
Hi all,
Swimming the English Channel is a personal challenge of mine I have wanted to do for many years. The English channel is a gruelling 24 miles ( 38km) across one of the busiest and coldest shipping channels in the world. You need to be accompanied by a sea pilot who regulates your direction and safety aspect of the swim- his decision is final. I will not be aided or assisted in anyway during the course of the swim, i will also be swimming in a speedo- no wetsuits.
The swim unfortunately had to be postponed due an unforeseen 4 week bout of Bronchitis, the swim has been postponed till 20 June 2011, I will be continuing to train for the swim to make sure I do better for you all next year, thanks all for the support you have shown me and have a few sponsors who have really embraced my challenge and I would like to say a quick thank you.
I would like to thank the following people and companies:
SUSPI: Stellenbosch University Sports Performance Institute who have genrously donated their time and expertise, a medical team, nutritionist and above all Karin my coach.
you can reach them for more info on the services they offer on the following web address:
Glaceau Vitaminwater- sponsoring water to keep me hydrated all the through training and the actual swim
Russian Standard Vodka - for sponsoring my flights to the UK and back
New Balance SA- sponsored me some great NB apparell for all my training needs.
TYR Swim wear: Have kindly donated swimming apparel for me in my training and channel swim- Thanks Peter.
I have a long way to go in my training and preparation and am really trying to raise money for my chosen charity "Reach for a Dream foundation". If I can make a difference or give 1 other person a chance at a better life all of this will be worth it. Please support me in my quest to raise funds, you can sponsor me a block amount or even a "per mile" amount bearing in mind I will be finishing it come hell or high water - excuse the pun! please be generous and open your hearts ( and wallets) for 2010. Anything you can manage will be a great help and inspiration to me.You will make a big difference in these kids lives.
thanks for taking time in reading this and being so generous.
Ross Young
