Personal message

I, Nicholas Hops, am a cancer survivor of 7 years from an osteosarcoma (bone tumor) in my right tibia. I've always wanted to give back to those who helped me get through that period in my life and have finally found a way to do it! Now, at the age of 19 I will be riding the Absa Cape Epic in 2012 with my Dad to raise funds for the Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital, where I received my chemotherapy as an 11/12 year old! 

After 6 various surgeries, multiple chemotherapy sessions and a combined couple of years in crutchers and wheel chairs I am finally able to take part in a normal sport and actually do well at it! Cycling means a lot to me and i thoroughly enjoy almost every hour I spend on the bike (unless I get a puncture, I HATE those) To be able to take part in the Absa Cape Epic with my dad is an amazing opportunity, traditionally afforded to 40+ working men/women and the racing professionals. So why not combine an amazing opportunity such as this with a 'higher cause' through raising money for a hospital with which I will always have a special bond, the Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital down in Cape Town.
