Personal message

In the heart of Lidgetton, KwaZulu-Natal, stands a beacon of hope and community spirit - the Sizakancane Senior Citizens Club. Founded by the remarkable 95-year-old Anna "MaNgubane" Mntambo, this club has been a lifeline for the elderly, offering a place of companionship, care, and activity. Today, we stand at a crucial juncture to restore and enhance this vital community resource.

The Heart of Sizakancane: MaNgubane's Vision

MaNgubane's journey began with a simple observation: the need for meaningful engagement among the elderly in her community. From humble beginnings of community vegetable gardens, Sizakancane blossomed into a hub of activity, providing nearly 40 members with a place to connect, stay active, and receive support. It's more than a club; it's a testament to MaNgubane's enduring vision and dedication.

A Call to Action: Rebuilding and Restoration

Sadly, the physical state of the Sizakancane Clubhouse tells a different story. Years of vandalism and theft have left it in ruins, forcing our cherished seniors into cramped and inadequate spaces. This is where we need your help. Love Howick is committed to rebuilding and securing the clubhouse, but we cannot do it alone. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where our seniors can gather, share meals, engage in fitness and crafting activities, and continue to contribute to their community.

Our Plan: A Revitalized Space for Our Seniors

Our vision is clear: a rebuilt clubhouse, complete with facilities for various activities and a feeding scheme supported by new planting tunnels. We've started by laying the foundations and securing the perimeter, but there's much more to do. We aim to complete this project before the cold sets in May 2024, ensuring our seniors have a warm, inviting place to call their own.

Join Us in Honoring MaNgubane's Legacy

Your contribution will directly impact the lives of Lidgetton's senior citizens. It's not just about rebuilding walls; it's about restoring dignity, fostering community, and honoring a legacy that has given so much to so many. Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to our goal.

How You Can Help

  • Donate: Your financial support will go towards construction materials, equipment, and labor costs.
  • Spread the Word: Share our campaign with your network and help us reach more potential supporters.
  • Volunteer: If you're local, join us in hands-on work or organizing community events.

Together, we can rebuild not just a clubhouse, but a home for the heart and spirit of our senior citizens. Let's honor MaNgubane's legacy and ensure that the Sizakancane Senior Citizens Club continues to thrive as a cornerstone of our community.
