We are starting this campaign with a humble and hopeful heart because have no other way of trying to raise funds at the moment. Our Mother Jacki became ill in the middle of September with flu symptoms that did not seem to subside. She also complained of pain in her core and thought she might have developed a stomach ulcer or hernia from too much coughing. She went to the clinic on the 16th of October 2023 and was given medicine for pneumonia because she had noticed blood in her sputum, however on the 17th of October she was admitted to hospital because the pain had worsened and the blood had become violent amounts.
She was put on antibiotics and many tests were done for Tuberculosis etc. and she was sent for xrays and a sonar of her lungs, she was not treated for the pain in her core and the tests had shown her liver was swollen. They also drained the fluid from her lungs and with every day that passed she became weaker. The only vehicle we have broke during this time and the shocks had to be replaced, we then had to to travel twice a day with an uber to see my mother and make sure she was eating and could get to the toilet.
After ten days in hospital and fighting with doctors because they could not tell us what her diagnosis was, she was eventually sent to the specialist hospital in the next town for an MRI and Bronchoscopy. She was there for two days and then brought back to our hospital.
She was diagnosed on the 3rd of November with a malignant neoplasm, wich is metastatic Lung cancer that had already spread to her liver and caused liver Cirrhosis and sepsis was already present.
She was sent home for palliative care because she wanted to be with her family.
Our Mom passed away on Tuesday morning 7 November leaving behind myself, her daughter, three grandchildren aged 13, 8 and 6 and my brother Rayno who is 17 years old.
When she informed us of her diagnosis on the 5th of November, she asked us to pay R3000 into her bank account so that her policies would not lapse. She had taken out a funeral policy as well as a Life Policy with FNB when she had been promoted to a senior position at work in July 2023. She told us that it would only help us and my brother.
Unfortunately within days we learned that her funeral policy would not be paying out and a two weeks later that her life policy would also not be paying out both due to a 6 month waiting period. We appealed on both decisions for my brother's sake but were declined. We used all our savings to pay for her funeral that was R21 000. We had just moved to a new place because our rental home had been sold putting us in a position to pay double the rent we did and double that same amount as deposit wich is R40000
My husband works full time and I am an entrepreneur. December is the most quiet time of the year for me, people spend money on holidays a d gifts etc. I have not had an income for December and January yet.
Ahead of us is our eldest daughter going to Gr 8 and our youngest going to Gr.1 and my brother who is supposed to be starting his basic skills course. This is the year he becomes 18 and there are many things ahead like his ID, his drivers license etc..
We are asking for help so that we can pay for the things that have to be paid like school fees and course fees, stationary for all four children, school bags, uniform for two and supplies for our food cupboard so that we can ensure that all the children are fed properly starting this school year.
We are just trying our best to give our children as well as my brother who is also our responsibility now a better start to 2024 than the end they had to last year.
