Personal message
My name is Rami Chokoe, a 26 year old female who decided to go back to school to study for something she's always been passionate about.
I grew up in a small village in Limpopo called Sterkwater, and I completed my matric in 2016. I have always seen myself working in the healthcare. But after my matric I was enrolled with University of Limpopo studying BSc in Agriculture (Agricultural Economics), I opted for it because entry into medical school is highly competitive and unfortunately I did not get accepted in any of the courses I applied for. I admit I took the decision to study Agricultural Economics as a second option out of pressure and lack of knowledge being the first time getting exposed to life after Matric. I admit it is a good degree, one with expertise i plan to endeavour in the future, this is why i made the decision to stay and complete the degree with the help of NSFAS funding my studies.
One influential person in my life told me to follow my passion and align it with my purpose, because if i do not, it will huant me. After two years of completing my degree in Agriculture, I decided to take that advice and quit a retail job to go back to school and study full time. people always ask me, why Dentistry?, my answer is always simple "i am passionate about art, and my purpose is much aligned with helping people". I plan to achieve that through dental care and promotion for better overall health. I do believe that dreams delayed are not dreams denied. I was accepted by the University of Pretoria to study Dentistry in 2023, I immediately jumped into the opportunity as it was a dream come true for me. To practise Dentistry is more than just a title, but to change lives and give poeple beautiful and healthy smiles. And if we can promote good oral health, we can help in preventing and managing a range of chronic diseases because they are intimately linked.
I now do not qualify for NSFAS since it funded my first degree, and as a result, I am facing many financial hurdles in terms of accommodation, food and most importantly tuition fees. Altough i come from a disadvantaged background, i am fortunate to have a supportive and a loving family where the value of education has always been highly regarded. They have been helping me by paying for accommodation and groceries.
I am currently financially unsuitable to register because of my outstanding balance on my student account. I am requesting donations and pleading with you to help me raise funds to pay my outstanding balance of R69616.00. I am required to pay at least 50% of my fees before I can make any financial agreement with the university and be allowed to register. I took a loan with the university to contribute towards my fees, but i can only get an offer of R20 000. This means i am still falling short of the 50% i need to pay before i am allowed to make any payment agreement with the university . I am asking you to help me reach my goal by donating any amount towards my fees so I can continue with my studies. The funds will go directly into my student account. Thank you for taking your time to read my story and believing in me. To changing the world, one life and one smile at a time.
