Personal message

I am Dr Rachel Jeans, a recent graduate from the Onderstepoort Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. I am a Zimbabwean citizen and I have been waiting a long 10 months for my visa to be approved to allow me to start my Compulsory Community Service Year in Johannesburg. Furthermore, I am not allowed to work as a vet in my home country as I have to write a set of local examinations which are only written in October of each year. 

 
Between these 2 countries my hands have been tied by bureaucracy and I have been denied the ability to earn a living doing what I am qualified to do. I was hoping to have saved up to be able to afford to attend the World Veterinary Congress in Cape Town this year as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have it so close. Despite the people who are sat behind desks inhibiting me from doing what I so passionately wish to do, I will not let the last six years of hard work waste away in waiting.
 
As such, I appeal to anyone and everyone to help me continue on my path to being the best veterinarian I can be. This congress is an opportunity to learn from the world’s finest in their respective fields. I only hope to take away what they have to give, and use it to make a difference in this world, however great or small, for the promise of a better future. While I do not have my own patients now, I promise to all those to come that I will do everything in my power to give them my very best. I am asking for your help to ensure I deliver on this promise. 
 
Please help me in raising the funds for the registration fee to attend this congress. I would be forever grateful for any contribution towards this, in whatever size or capacity. Your support will aid me, a new veterinarian, on my path to serve the animals on this earth and their humans.
