Personal message
I’m a recreational cyclist and over the last 13 years, I completed the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour 11 times. Every year, as I circle the Cape Peninsula, I’m overwhelmed by how privileged I am to live, work and play in this most beautiful part of the world.
While the Cycle Tour has always been held on the second Sunday of March, the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the postponement of the 2021 edition to 10 October 2021.
This means that my preparation would now have to be during the less than ideal cold and wet Cape winter months. This, together with my concerns around the pandemic made me doubtful about my participation this year. As I was contemplating whether to give this year’s ride a miss, my colleague Ambrose suggested I do the ride for Home of Hope.
I could not think of a better motivator than assisting Home of Hope in their making a difference in the lives of abused and abandoned children. In the words of the father of our nation Nelson Mandela: “Each one of us, as citizens, has a role to play in creating a better world for our children”.
Please help me to help Home of Hope make a difference in the life of Dumiso. My target of R 15 000. 00 will go a long way to help to supply the needs of this child who, like any other child, deserves a fair chance to reach his full potential.
Before Dumiso arrived at Home of Hope he was living in extremely poor conditions, having a full meal and warm bed was something he was not used to. At 5 years old, he had no teeth and only began teething at 6 years old.
At 7 years old, and since being in the care of Home of Hope, he now has 5 teeth. I look forward to raising the money needed to continue to provide care for Dumiso and make a difference.
Funds raised for Dumiso will go towards his daily care and provide him with specialized education able to address his disabilities and unique needs. Home of Hope provides specific services for his needs striving to provide him with a brighter future.
