Personal message

OneVoice South Africa has 19 years of experience developing and delivering educational Life Skills and Training programmes with and for young people. Especially girls and young women. Our entire focus is on empowering South African youth through education.

The OneVoice South Africa Schools and Workplace Preparedness Training Programmes open doors to quality educational interventions that remain difficult for many young people to access. Growing up is a journey often burdened with the effects of a seemingly unrelenting HIV/TV epidemic. Educational systems are still recovering from the country's previous inequalities. Not to mention issues of gender-based violence, poverty, and youth unemployment.

Nonetheless, our young people are our most treasured asset - and they bring inspiration and hope to the growth of our Nation!! To support our young people on their path to health and financial independence, we provide thousands of high-school learners and TVET College students from semi-urban and rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal with workshops and mentoring sessions in Enterprise Development, Entrepreneurship and basic business principles, Social Entrepreneurship, financial literacy, starting a small business after-hours, hands-on life-skills development (HIV, TB, Teenage pregnancy, Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene, Gender, Leadership, Planning and Goal Setting, Human Rights & Nation-building, and Career Guidance).

Our work impacts some 6000 learners and 1200 women students annually - bringing hope, inspiration, and a growing record of measurable change in their lives and their broader communities.

Our programmes and this Fundraising Campaign support creating youth networks of collaboration shared resources, and teamwork, especially for our frequently disadvantaged young girls – and the many young women at TVET Colleges. They are carving their career paths in our post-Covid World.

With a focus on Life Skills, Enterprise Development, Developing Young Girl Entrepreneurs, and Workplace Preparedness, we will enable more excellent personal health, confidence, and leadership, as well as the ability to access higher education, self-employment, formal employment, and high-demand areas of work.

Not to mention that many of our programmes promote financial independence for young girls and women. This brings lasting transformation and positive change for many in disadvantaged settings and beyond.

Raised funds will be allocated to meet the programme's direct costs and project implementation. This includes the cost of developing school curricula and training programme support materials, learner and student support materials, the placement of a Community-based Facilitator in each school, transport costs of Facilitators and trainers, stationery, printing, and IT costs.

As well as annual legal subscriptions and staff refresher training to stay up-to-date on educational topics and legislation, health and safety requirements, and operational costs such as rent, lights, and water.

Charity Default Logo

OneVoice South Africa (OVSA) is a vibrant and unique non-governmental organization, which uses innovative and creative ways of actively engaging young people on critical health and lifestyle issues – including HIV and TB prevention. Our programme is appealing to young people because it provides them with a platform to discuss and address HIV and AIDS, TB, life and livelihood skills, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender, hygiene practices, good citizenship, and human rights issues.

Our target audience is young people, 13-25 years. We believe it is crucial to target these young people as they transition from childhood, through adolescence, and into adulthood; a time of risk, while also offering a great opportunity for change. We are passionate about partnering with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds, different geographical areas, and from various settings, including in education and the community, for the following reasons:

Most young people become sexually active between 13-24;
Most new infections occur between the ages of 15-24, and mainly among women;
Young people’s minds are more receptive to creative and inclusive messaging, and
Young people are our future role models and leaders.

OVSA is currently implementing its Schools Programme and associated projects through a partnership with Grade 8, 9, 10, and 11 learners, in 22 schools across KwaZulu-Natal. The Schools Programme includes the Life Skills Project (Grade 8), the Life Skills Project (Grade 10), the Enterprise Project focussing on careers and entrepreneurship development with Grade 9 and 11 learners, and the Early Detection of TB Project (Grade 10).
