Hello, my name is Nhlanhla. I am a 23-year-old student from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, currently studying Commerce in Economics. My ultimate goal is to become one of the best economists in the world. I chose to study economics because I have a keen interest in understanding how the world functions, including the behavior of individuals, businesses, markets, and government. However, I faced financial challenges during my first year of studies in 2022. Unfortunately, I did not have the necessary funding and accumulated a historical debt as a result. Living with my grandmother, there are a total of eleven family members who depend on her. She has been my primary caregiver, but as a pensioner, she could only provide me with transportation and some essential items. Despite the financial difficulties, I remained determined to succeed for the sake of my family and myself, and I worked hard to achieve good grades. It has been a challenging journey, as economics is an intriguing but demanding course. However, I am constantly concerned that I may not be able to continue my studies in 2024 due to the outstanding debt I owe to the institution. This year, in 2023, I applied for the eThekwini Student Relief Fund, which granted me funding to cover the registration fee and unblocked my access to continue studying for this year only. To continue my studies in 2024, I will need to repay the historical debt. The beneficiary of the potential funds raised is not only myself, but my entire family of eleven members who rely on my grandmother's care. She has been my pillar of support, and any assistance received will not only uplift me but also relieve the financial burden on my family. Raising the necessary funds is paramount to me as it signifies an opportunity to continue my education and pursue my dream of excelling in the field of economics. The funds raised will not only impact my academic journey but also alleviate the financial strain on my family, especially my grandmother, who has selflessly supported me despite her limited means. If I am able to raise the required funds, it will have a profound impact on my academic continuity and personal development. It will enable me to focus on my studies without the worry of financial obstacles, allowing me to dedicate myself fully to academic excellence and realizing my potential as an economist.  The funds raised will be utilized primarily to settle the historical debt owed to the institution, ensuring my continued enrollment and academic progression in 2024. Additionally, the funds will support me in acquiring necessary study materials, accessing academic resources, and participating in extracurricular activities that enhance my overall learning experience.   This opportunity will significantly change my situation at home, and I am determined to utilize the skills and knowledge I acquire to excel in my education and positively impact my community.
