Personal message

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis ten years ago. At the time, I knew nothing about this disease, but within a year, I found myself limping. Rheumatoid arthritis is a debilitating condition, and unfortunately, mine progressed very rapidly. Despite having both my hips replaced and trying various medication combinations, the disease persisted. I've experienced significant losses, including some of my teeth and hair, and I now have minimal use in my hands. For the past eight years, I have been wheelchair-bound, receiving treatment at Joburg Gen Hospital.

As a single parent to a 16-year-old girl, she has become my primary caregiver, assisting me with everything from washing to feeding. My illness has taken a toll on her, as we live in a one-bedroom backroom that is not wheelchair-friendly at all. Our only source of income is the disability grant I receive.

I am reaching out for your help in raising funds for knee replacement surgery. This surgery would enable me to walk again, providing my child with the freedom she deserves. Your support will make a significant difference in our lives.
