Personal message

The Mont-Aux-Sources Challenge is arguably the Queen of trail running in South Africa. It is a 1-day run from the Mahai Campsite in Royal Natal National Park up to the source of the Tugela Waterfall and down again. – we are aiming to complete this race in 12-14 hours. No pressure!

Niel: Whenever we get together with my buddy, Gordon Reid, something is bound to happen... and it's always something crazy. Our impulsive decision to participate in this challenge can only be described as a midlife crisis. We really taking crazy to a new level.

"Set goals that scare the shit out of you. 50km trail run with 3000m elevation in first 25km is booked for September. @WildSeriesSA Mount-aux-sources race has always been on my bucket list and today I drew a line in cement." - Gords Reid

So with my 50th happening this year it was time to take stock of life. I decided that fitness and health are a priority to set me up for the next 50. And trail running is my chosen go to. What better way to celebrate than running with mates and running for an incredible cause. Bring on the Berg in all its beauty.” – Terry Flack

So here we are, 11 weeks out and no turning back. Shit has just got real & training starts today. For all our pain and effort we will be supporting a charity called Rainbows and Smiles Foundation.

Every year in South Africa, almost 1000 children are diagnosed with cancer.

Our socio-economic challenges, and generally poor level of awareness of the warning signs of childhood cancer, mean that a large number of these children are diagnosed very late into their illness. As a result, they face a difficult battle against their illness, and sadly, for many of our children, treatment just comes too late.

Experts in South Africa estimate that around two-thirds of childhood cancers in our country remain un-reported, which means that in reality closer to 3000 children every year actually get cancer. Just not all will get a chance to fight it.

Rainbows and Smiles is a community-based, charitable foundation dedicated to providing emotional, social and financial support to children diagnosed with cancer, and their families and caregivers.

Donate and make a difference in the life of a child with cancer!
