This is my best friend’s story that had a tumor in her lung, and her lung was removed. 

October 2023 my friend (Minnie) went to the Dr for a cough that just won’t go away. She was sent for X-rays and a few tests. 

Later that week the Dr phoned and told her that it is not an infection, she needs to go for a scan.

The diagnosis came back… there is a tumor as large as a golf ball in her lung. The Dr needs to remove it ASAP. 

On the 30th of October 8:00 she went in for the operation to remove the tumor.

She came out of theatre with only one lung… 

The Dr removed the whole lung, because the tumor was so much larger than the scan showed and it has spread to the rest of the lung.

The results of the tested tumor came back, it was cancer.

The recovery of this painful operation took a while and she is making great progress.

All though everything has been removed she still has to undergo treatment, because there is a chance of a cell/ cells that is still present.

The downside… the medical aid does not cover all the expenses of the medication that she needs. She needs to pay +-R42000 per month for cancer medication out of her own pocket… 

Minnie is one amazing strong woman. She is living her life with the one lung, being positive and a true inspiration.

She has touched so many learners hearts over the 30 years of teaching at the school where she is teaching now - Hoërskool Overvaal.

She is the one person that I know with the biggest and most generous, caring heart. 

She needs the healthy lung and to stay healthy to touch more lives & give her witness on how all of this changed her life.

The funds raised will be used for the co-payment of the medication. The target of R250 000 is a fraction of the cost. A follow up campain and story will be launched as soon as the first target is reached.
