Personal message

Hello everyone, My name is Mihle Mngeni from Ngqeleni near Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape. I matriculated in 2017 with APS score of 41, I enrolled at the University of Fort Hare to do Nursing/B. Cur as I couldn’t be accepted into medical school. When I was doing nursing I was funded by NSFAS and I graduated and finished my degree in record time. I graduated in 2022 around the 20th of May. I didn’t give up my dream of becoming a doctor one day, so I did my community service to support my self financially, whilst I was applying for admission to medical school. I strongly believe that dreams delayed are not dreams denied. I finally got accepted by University of KwaZulu Natal to do Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery. Becoming a Doctor has always been my long life dream because from a very young age I have always had the desire to help other people and be vigil to the sick. In my career as a health professional I would like to advance my career to the point where I can have an impact in ground breaking research in the health care industry such as the HIV research conducted by the University of KwaZulu Natal of which I am enrolled in for Medicine(MBChB). However, with my current qualification status (have already obtained a qualification in Bachelor of Nursing) I unfortunately cannot be funded by most bursaries including NSFAS to continue with my studies. Although I am financially inclined I will not let it stop me from pursuing the career I have always wanted. In a book by Dr Judy Dlamini called “The other story”, Size Ngisana said “There is nothing in the DNA of an African child that makes him or her any different from any other child from any other parts of the world, the only difference is the opportunities we get as a child” I strongly believe that me being granted this funding/assistance is the opportunity that I need to continue perusing my dreams and it will be a tool in my journey to success.
