Personal message

I am a 31 year old physiotherapist and I am doing my 2nd Half Ironman in 2015. I did my 1st one in 2013. I am not a born athlete and I really had to work very hard. I had to put my ego aside and go for swimming lessons at the age of 29. It was horrible as I was scared to death of swimming and I felt like giving up many times but the 6 year dream of doing IMSA70.3 kept me going. I had NO idea of how I was going to finish it but every morning I visualized myself running over the red carpet and crossing the finish line. I did not have a good time but I finished the race.

This year (2015) i want to be prepared in the BEST way that I possibly can. I don't want to race it but I definitely going to try and better my time. In the process of getting fit again I completely overcame my fear of swimming. I can now almost say that I like swimming - something that was not even on my radar 3 years ago.

Lastly I discovered so much about myself. How deep I have to dig to overcome fears and obstacles but also how rewarding it is to see yourself improve. The small things is now the things that count....like cutting a few seconds off a time trial or how much easier certain hills are to run or cycle.

I am honored to compete for the SMILE Foundation this year as I am a firm believer of paying it forward. There are so many kids that cannot smile and if me trying my best to get fit and cross that finish line can mean that somewhere some child can smile again, then I will do this every year!

I am always wearing bright pink lipstick so i will gladly SMILE away at 70.3 to put a SMILE on a kid's face.
