On the fateful day of April 13, 2023, my world turned upside down when my father was involved in a severe car accident.

He found himself at Netcare Alberton, trapped in a coma, with injuries affecting his ribs, brain, abdomen, and pelvis. The challenges, however, didn't end there.

Upon admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an unforeseen obstacle arose—load shedding prevented the ventilator from functioning, leading to critical brain damage. The journey through rehabilitation has been an uphill battle, marked by the emergence of painful bedsores that now require specialized care. To aid the healing process, medical professionals recommend the use of a vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) system.

Amidst this tumultuous period, my mother shoulders the burden of both emotional and financial strain. With one less salary in the household, the impact on our family's well-being is profound. While we anticipate Worker's Compensation (WCA) to provide financial relief, the timeline for disbursement remains uncertain, adding to the mounting challenges we face.
