Approximately a month ago, Groote Schuur Hospital delivered a devastating prognosis, giving Marco a mere two weeks to live. Discharged with a State Grant Application Form, medication, and Hospice forms, Marco now confronts a dire situation that demands immediate attention.

Marco's journey has been one of resilience and setbacks. Born with a dormant kidney, he was cared for by Red Cross Hospital until he transitioned to Groote Schuur. After securing a job with medical aid benefits post-school, he faced a turning point 14 years ago when he received a life-saving kidney transplant. Unfortunately, he lost his job shortly afterward, leading him back to Groote Schuur for continuous medical check-ups until October of this year. On his last visit, he was informed that his transplanted kidney was failing, and he was given a two-week ultimatum.

Despite living a healthy and active life—participating in various sports and maintaining a disciplined lifestyle—Marco now finds himself at the mercy of dialysis, a crucial lifeline standing between him and life-threatening circumstances. Dialysis is not a luxury but an absolute necessity for him to survive, and time is of the essence.
