I met Bonnie over a year ago & I was extremely moved by her story over the loss of her son, Jed. Having a young son of my own puts life into perspective & the mere thought of losing him to a dreaded disease such as cancer leaves a dull ache in my stomach. Bonnie told myself & my husband Alistair about the Rainbows & Smiles Foundation she started in honour of Jed. Wow I thought - this I want to support! I have decided to take on the challenge of participating in 7 events over 6 months to raise funds for this very worthy cause in support of kidz fighting cancer! The 7 events are as follows - 70.3 East London, Midmar Mile, Hillcrest marathon, an Ironman Training Camp, Ironman, Wally Hayward & to finish off...Comrades. I was recently diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic (my pancreas has stopped working (unknown as to why) so my body can't produce insulin), this is also a life threatening disease! Having had this very unexpected scare also made me realize how fragile life is & anyone - it doesn't matter how healthy you are or think you are, your situation can change, instantly! I can't fathom what these brave little warriors must go through day in & day out! As well as their very brave parents. So I hope I can make a difference & help! Please help me in making a difference - any contributions big or small - counts! Thank you!

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer. In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection.
