Personal message

My husband gave me very good advice a few months before my 40th birthday.  He suggested that I set a really big goal in my 40th year that would take my mind off a possible "midlife crisis" :)

I decided to start swimming after a 12 year break and swim the 10km open water event at Midmar dam.  The event was scheduled for the 14th February 2006 and I turned 40 two days later on the 16th February 2006.  This was one of the best decisions in my life.  I have continued to swim in galas, open water swims and ocean swims in the Cape.  I have been so blessed to achieve amazing goals, meet wonderful people and attempt and complete swims that have exceeded my expectations.  Ten years later I will participate in a 24 hour swim in January 2016 to raise funds for a charity.  I cannot believe the swimming journey of the past decade and I will celebrate my 50th birthday with an even bigger challenge.  It is so fitting to be able to swim for a charity and in a small way give back something to children in need.

The chosen charity is www.thelonelyroad.org.  I am so blessed to be a mother and I can think of no better charity to swim for than one that provides a place of safety for children.

Your support for the children of South Africa will be greatly appreciated.

Jade
