Luffy's Journey: From Abandoned Pup to Beloved Clinic Mascot

It was on May 23, 2022 that a tiny, malnourished Luffy was brought to the Woodrock Sterilisation Clinic, his fragile body beset by ringworm and worm infestation. I was immediately drawn to him, and knew that he would be coming home with me that night.

Since then, Luffy has become a staff member at woodrock, and has grown into a well-adjusted, socialized dog. He has developed a love and concern for other animals, making him a perfect emotional support dog for our clinic's patients. Luffy has even been given the nickname "Doctor Loof" and has become something of a mascot for the clinic, providing valuable support and care to both patients and staff.

However, despite his growth and progress, there was one issue that continued to trouble Luffy: his hind limb conformation. It was clear early on that years of inbreeding for looks had taken a toll on his legs, and it wasn't long before his patellas started luxating and he began experiencing lameness. After an injury left him barely able to move, we knew that he needed surgery.

Fortunately, we were put in touch with Pawsitive Mobility, an organization that assists with orthopedic treatment and surgery for pets in need. Today, Luffy will undergo TPLO surgery to reconstruct his knee joint with a prosthesis. This surgery, which usually costs upwards of R40,000, has been made possible thanks to Pawsitive Mobility and the skilled hands of Dr. Ajit at Brackenhurst Veterinary Hospital.
