Good day,

My mom has been an ICU nurse for most of her life, then she started working as a Diabetic nurse, and for the past few years, she has been nursing at a Roodepoort Centre vir bejaardes, assisting the frail and elderly. I know my mom planned on still carrying on with work due to their financial status, but also because she loved what she was doing. She always said she will work until she can’t anymore because she does not want to look into anyone’s eyes for assistance.

She had been a loving nurse, who cared a lot for her patients, and worked extremely hard her whole life to give us what we need.

On November 23, 2023, she had a heart attack and Dr. Vinod inserted 2 stents. On December 5, she had a small stroke, and the following day, she experienced 3 or 4 more strokes. The chances of this happening are almost 1 in a 1000. And the chances of a stroke on both sides of the brain is 1% of the annual 15 million strokes worldwide.

I am writing this letter because I realize that there are a lot of things that she will need, and a lot of rehabilitation that she is going to require to just get a little better. I know the severity of the stroke was very big especially because it was on both sides… We are praying for a miracle with regards to the healing, but from a medical perspective know that there can be some recovery from the brain, called neuroplasticity. And it is going to take intense intervention from the medical field with regards to rehabilitation. I know there are a lot of people with great needs… But thought it would be worth my amazing mother's while to try and attempt to get her the service she always provided for her patients.

At this stage, she communicates with squeezing of the hand & blinking of her eyes. She can’t swallow any foods. This she has a feeding tube and a tracheostomy for breathing.

She is currently in a Rehabilitation Centre (Riverfield Lodge) where she is making great progress, but medical aid funds are running out and we would appreciate your help to keep her there for the best medical help and needs.
