Personal message
I am Liyanda Dube, a Bachelor of Health Sciences WITS graduate and 4th year Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery student in need of financial assistance to pursue my dream of becoming a Medical Doctor.
My BHSc Degree falls under the Health Systems Sciences (HSS) track, with my final year having two majors including, Health Systems Sciences and Public Health. I like to look at Health Systems Sciences as the directors, scriptwriters, producers, Editors, make-up artists, and cameramen of the healthcare system that ensure that the actors and actresses (clinical health professionals) are comfortable and have all the resources they need to give us good entertainment (Good quality service delivery).
I am a very diligent individual who prides myself in my work. I come from a small township – Diepsloot and was raised by a single mother who works as a Domestic Worker. I have worked hard to ensure that I have a clean academic career allowing me to build a competitive edge, as well as perseverance. I have managed to achieve distinctions in my tertiary study. With this, I was part of the Dean’s List in 2021 and 2022 as well as became a proud member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
As a Health Systems graduate, my role is to help my community by advocating for their access to services and health education. I help bridge the gap between patients and the healthcare system, by bringing the health system to the people. This is why I have taken the step to become a Medical doctor to contribute added value to the health system by increasing human resources, especially in marginalised communities. As a public servant, I want to be part of the change in the healthcare system where all people in South Africa have access to good quality health services and improvement in primary and preventative healthcare.
For my HSS degree, I was funded by NSFAS because I could not afford tertiary education. Since it only funds me once, I will not be able to continue with my studies and therefore I require financial assistance. My financial situation and socioeconomic status have only pushed my desire to want to bring change to in health status of my community and I intend to do so.
Thank you for your consideration. Any opportunity that will help me further my studies and future will be appreciated.
