Personal message

Who am I: I am a community member who relocated to Bot River in September 2017.

Location: This NPO is located in the rural community of Bot River, Theewaterskloof Municipality, Overberg, Western Cape, South Africa.

Bot River is a dungeon town, in a rural village frequented by unemployment, poverty, seasonal employment opportunities, moral decay, substance abuse and high occurrence of crime, limited basic education facilities, limited extramural facilities and a very poor transport infrastructure.

My involvement: I got involved with an existing local NPO, Little Miracles for Persons with Disabilities which was founded in 2017 and registered in 2018. The NPO seeks to provide care and support services and alleviate some of the challenges experienced by persons living with children with disabilities, including their immediate families.

The NPO have identified several children, youth, and adults with disabilities, living in poverty-stricken circumstances.

Disabled children, youth and adults are entitled to basic care and support services in a safe and stimulating environment, including the improvement of life through concrete action.

Current situation: Currently and since, 2019, the NPO operates from a garage area which is not ideal. Seven (7) x children between ages 1 and 18 are receiving day care and support services at the NPO. The two volunteer workers are part of the EPWP and received stipends which will end March 2024.

The main goal of this CrowdFund with BackaBuddy is to set-up a fully functional Day Care Facility and Project Office for the NPO.in close proximity where most of the persons with disabilities reside.

This facility will serve as a permanent safe space enabling the rendering of basic care and support services to persons living with children with disabilities on a much more permanent basis.

The donations received will be used as a operational budget, covering overheads, such as rent, water, electricity, desks, chairs, mats, stationery, learning materials, kitchen utensils, food and fuel.

The broad goal of the NPO is to:

1. Remove some barriers experience by persons living with disabilities.

2. Improve the quality of life through concrete action and the facilitation of programs amongst children, youth and adults living with disabilities in Bot River.
