Every year the ZAM Foundation identifies young people predominantly from Khayelitsha and surrounding townships who are in need and supports them in obtaining a learners' license and potentially a driver's license when funds do allow. In 2024 the foundation hopes to do the same but limited resources are making this a challenge. The foundation is mostly funded by its founders and members of the public who recognise the need. Due to prevailing economic conditions it is continuously becoming difficult to raise additional funds to assist even more deserving young people. The foundation opted for crowdfunding to raised the much needed funds for 2024.
For young people from previously disadvantaged communities obtaining a learners' and potentially a drivers' license can be life changing. Firstly, it gives the young person a sense of achievement and impacts directly on their self esteem. Secondly, being  equipped with the skill of driving and having a driver's license is a requirement for most decent jobs in the country at present. So, this will assist in positioning these young people to better compete with their peers in the job market.
The funds will be used to pay for learner's license lessons including the learner's license examination at a local Driving License Test Centre. This will be in preparation for the young people to receive their driving lessons after passing their learner's license exam.
Statistics
The Zimkhitha Amanda Mashalaba Foundation

The Zimkhitha Amanda Mashalaba Foundation herein referred to as ZAM Foundation, is a registered NPO (153-560 NPO) that aims to provide access to learners and driver’s license training to young people from previously disadvantaged communities in order to improve their prospects of employment.
The foundation focuses, although not exclusively, on young people who are 25 years and younger, who either have matric or are in their matric year. We have identified that a large number of these young people once they finish their matric, usually opt for job seeking as opposed to tertiary education due to lack of funds from their families.
Our aim is to intervene during this period by providing them with the opportunity to acquire a skill they can use in their search for a job and can also be of great use to them in the future i.e. the ability and certification to drive a motor vehicle.
