Kirti and I have faced our fair share of challenges! Diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2003, my only chance of a cure was a transplant from a healthy donor. With chances of finding a matching donor at just 1 in 100,000 the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) showed me that the odds can be beaten! The only Registry of its kind in South Africa, the SABMR performs complex searches to find matching donors for people like myself. If a donor cannot be found in South Africa, they take their search worldwide. Last year I had the great fortune of meeting my donor from Taiwan. Now 10 years post transplant, Kirti and I are doing the IMPI Challenge to support the SABMR, whose life-saving work depends on the generosity of the public.
