Jarred Gentry is a 41 year old patient living at Goukam Health APD. I, Susan Vermaak, is a Occupational Therapist at Goukam Health (part of the association for people with disabilities) and are starting this fund for Jarred.
Jarred suffered from multiple CVA's (strokes) during 2018 and affected his upper-and lower limbs, his speech and swallowing abilities, severely. Jarred has overcome big obstacles the past 6 years, which included, drinking and eating without the use of a feeding tube, communicating with a communication board and gaining function of his right upper limb.
Jarred has a manual wheelchair, but is unable to use this chair independently and for long distances, because of his weak left side and weak right leg. He is therefore dependent on a carer to wheel him around.
Jarred's heart desire is to have his own electric wheelchair so that he can move around more independently. He wants to go to town and do his own shopping, walk in the neighborhood with is 7 year old son and go to social events without a carer needing to push him around.
Jarred has his eye (and heart) set on a secondhand electric/motorized wheelchair, but because of the lack of funds and no income, other that his SASSA disability grant, we want to raise the funds for him to buy his own electric wheelchair.
