At just 6 weeks old, my son Jacquin underwent surgery for intestinal malrotation.

It was a harrowing experience for us as parents, but we were grateful for the medical care that saved his life. However, not all expenses were covered by our medical aid, and to make ends meet, I had to downgrade our plan, leaving us financially vulnerable.

Tragically, at the age of 1, Jacquin fell ill again, requiring a second surgery. Despite our best efforts, our reduced medical coverage left us grappling with overwhelming hospital bills, totaling over R50,000. These debts hang over us like a dark cloud, threatening our financial stability and the quality of care we can provide for Jacquin.

Beyond hospital bills, there's a constant stream of expenses related to Jacquin's health—chronic medication, appetite stimulants, vitamins, shakes, and more. It feels like a never-ending cycle, one that we simply can't keep up with on our own.
