Only 200 years ago, thousands of elephants used to walk from the current Addo Elephant Park, through the Baviaans, to the Garden Route. This path traverses 5 biomes; nowhere in the world will you find such a diversity of biomes in such a small area. But this corridor isn't a corridor anymore; it now crosses private lands and has become fragmented. One sad consequence is the obvious distress of the one elephant cow left in the Knysna forest - a social being stuck, scared and all alone. The protection of such corridors is proven to mitigate loss of species. 

The Eden to Addo Initiative works hard at restoring the corridor and protecting its species. In September, I'll be walking the 400 km over 20 days to raise awareness and money for this local, yet global cause. I cannot imagine a more enjoyable way to play a role in helping to protect the earth!
