Personal message
I started cycling in 1983 as a 13-year-old and fell in love with the sport. Now, 38 years later, I'm just as passionate about it. We raced very competitively at the provincial and national levels, but these days it is just for fun and staying healthy.
Working in the health and fitness industry it is natural to give back to your community through sponsorships, time, and fundraising. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time on the bike again and raising funds for the children of Home of Hope through this great initiative.
My little buddy that I am raising funds for is 9 years old and his name is James. James has had a really tough few years. In addition to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum disorder, he has been in and out of hospital fighting for his life. He has been through so much and yet he is so little.
When you meet James, you cannot help but smile as he is a strong, independent little boy and does not allow anything to hold him back. I feel truly honored to ride in the Cycle Tour this year and raise funds for my little buddy.
The money raised will go towards the specialised daily care of James and providing him with a better future regardless of the challenges he has already experienced.

Home of Hope

Home of Hope was started in 2005, and we are an NPO that cares for abandoned and abused children and children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD – permanent brain damage caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol). We are a registered place of safety and we have 19 children in our long term community based foster care.
The organisation also caters for the special educational needs of children suffering from FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and neurological challenges, in our Amathemba Learning Centre. There are currently 37 children at our Amathemba Learning Centre.
